Our dishwashers are a vital tool in the kitchen and wash our dishes so we don’t have to do it by hand. This allows us to think less about housework and more about spending time with our families or other activities. But dishes aren’t the only thing you can put in your dishwasher! Check out the unique items you can put in your dishwasher below:
- Baseball Hats: As they can get damaged in the washer, the dishwasher is the best place to wash them! Just make sure it goes in with other non food items.
- Action Figures & Small Toys: Throw the toys in a mesh bag on the top rack to have them come our squeaky clean!
- Flip Flops: You can hang plastic flip-flops off the top rack prongs to clean off everyday dirt and mud.
- Rain Boots: Rain boots can be a big pain to clean! To wash them in the dishwasher, remove any liners in the boot and lay horizontally.
- Ceramic Cabinet Knobs: Up for a deep kitchen clean? Your ceramic cabinet knobs can go in the silverware holder on your next load of dishes.
- Hair Brushes: Throw your plastic hair brushes or combs in the dishwashers to sanitize them. Make sure the hair is removed to avoid clogging the drain.
- Protective Padding: Shin pans, Knee guards & Mouth guards can all go on the top rack of the dishwasher.
- Garden Tools: Wash your garden tools in the dishwasher to keep them clean and sanitized. Just remember not to throw in wood handled tools and don’t mix them with dishes.
- Light Fixture Covers: This is a great way to get older light fixtures cleaned up and looking new. Make sure not to put them in if they are antique, painted or enameled.
- Potatoes: It might sound a little weird but you can actually wash your potatoes on the top rack of your dishwasher. Make sure you don’t add detergent and use the rinse only feature and you have a bulk amount of potatoes clean in no time!
