6 Ways To Soften Brown Sugar
Most of us have run into this issue at one time or another. You start working in the kitchen and you decide to grab the brown sugar, only to find out it’s hard and crumbling. Brown sugar has a habit of hardening and becoming almost unusable if it is not in an air tight container. Luckily, there are ways to fix this issue and save the brown sugar! Check out the 6 ways below to soften your brown sugar:
- Air Tight Container: Seems like an easy solution right? The issue with brown sugar is that it won’t survive once it has contact with air. Next time you open a new bag of brown sugar, use what you need and then pack into an air tight storage container. This way you will keep your brown sugar fresh and avoid issues from the start.
- Bread Slices: If you already have the issue of harden brown sugar, this solution is for you. Simply, place one or two piece of bread in the brown sugar container and seal with saran wrap and an air tight lid. Let the container sit overnight and by morning you should have soft brown sugar.
- Marshmallows: Marshmallows aren’t just for the campfire anymore! They are actually a really handy tool when it comes to softening brown sugar. Similar to the bread, place 4-5 large marshmallows in your brown sugar jar and they will keep it soft. You can leave the Marshmallows in there to keep it soft and replace them every so often.
- Freezer/Fridge: It has been said that keeping brown sugar in the fridge or freezer will always keep it soft. If this truly does work it could save a lot of hassle!
- Terra Cotta: A small terra cotta round plate has been known to keep brown sugar soft on the regular. Simply, keep the terra cotta in the brown sugar jar for soft sugar all the time. The plate may need to be replaced yearly. Also, you can buy a store bought version specially for brown sugar.
- Microwave: If you don’t have the time to wait for softened brown sugar, pop it in the microwave! Simply, place the sugar in an open plastic bag and place a damp paper towel in the bag. Microwave the whole bag for 10-20 seconds or until soft.
