Slow cooking is a great way to make a big meal without a lot of work! But slow cooking isn’t just for food, it also has some other great uses that some don’t know about. It can can lend a helping hand when making something as simple as applesauce or something as tricky as homemade candles. - Candles: As mentioned in the introduction, your slow cooker can be used to make homemade candles. With a few basic ingredients and some wax you will have homemade gifts and decor in no time!
- Cake: Did you know you can make a large cake right in your slow cooker?You can make almost any flavor with minimum work. Not only will it be mess and fuss free, the house will smell of cake goodness all day.
- Bread: This is a great way to avoid buying a bread maker! Simply find your favorite bread recipe and cook it in the slow cooker instead. You will get awesome results and you can even make larger quantity’s then normal.
- Fondue: This is a great option for a big group or a party. Prepare cheese or chocolate fondue in your slow cooker and keep it running for the evening. The low/warm temperature setting with keep the fondue from burning and will keep it warm all night.
- Baked Potatoes: If you are a big baked potato fan, this is perfect for you. Poke a few holes in your potatoes, season with salt/pepper and olive oil and wrap in foil. They usually take about 4-5 hours on high or 7-8 hours on low and before you know it you’ll have a perfect baked potato!
- Room Freshener: If you are looking for an alternative to room sprays and fresheners, look no further! Use your crock pot as a room freshener by adding items such as lemons, limes, cinnamon, mint etc. and some water. Let it heat on low and before you know the house will smell beautiful with no chemicals added.
- Stock: The slow cooker is a great way to make stock without hanging around the stove all day. Stock can be prepared and put to the side as it cooks away throughout the day. This is a great way to save some pennies and avoid buying pre packaged stock from the grocery store.
- DIY Yogurt: Yes it’s true, you can make your own yogurt right at home! While it might take some elbow grease to create the first batch, it gets easier every time you make a new batch as you will use a little from the original batch to speed up the process. Try making your own variations of yogurt to cut some spending out of your budget.
