Buffalo Grilled Chicken

It’s no secret that I love a good barbecue.  Sweet and tangy, I love the sticky sauce all over the chicken or ribs that I’m cooking.  But sometimes I get bored with barbecue sauce and reach for my favorite Buffalo wing sauce to make Buffalo Grilled Chicken.  I’m a hardcore Buffalo wing lover and use a sauce that’s as close to the original from the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, NY as I can get, which is Nance’s.  If you have a special sauce you like to use, that’s your favorite, feel free to substituted that if you like.  I had never grilled my wings, but after tasting some at a restaurant, I started grilling my chicken and reaching for the Nance’s.

Better Flavor by First Marinating Buffalo Grilled Chicken

To get the flavor of Buffalo wings all the way through the chicken, I marinated the chicken pieces in the sauce for about an hour.  The more you marinate it, the more flavor it has!  I love marinating it for a whole day.  The flavor is amazing and when basted in some extra sauce, you have the perfect Buffalo Grilled Chicken!

  • 3 lbs chicken pieces
  • 1 jar Buffalo wing sauce
  • 1 plastic zippy bag

  1. Rinse the chicken and place it in the zippy bag.
  2. Pour about ½ the jar of Buffalo wing sauce in the jar and seal the bag. Turn to coat the chicken.

  4. Allow to marinate in the refrigerator at least 1 hour.
  5. Heat grill to medium-high.
  6. Grill and baste the chicken, turning occasionally, until no pink remains in the meat.
  7. Serve hot with extra sauce.

Keeping Costs Down on Buffalo Grilled Chicken

One of the reasons I love Buffalo Grilled Chicken is the cost to make it.  I buy chicken leg quarters for $.69 a pound at a local butcher.  The meat is juicy and full of flavor.  I cook them on a slightly lower heat, just because they are a bit fattier, but all that drips out as they cook.  As for the sauce, I buy it on sale for $1.99 for a 12 oz jar.  I can get about 6 to 8 chicken leg quarters covered with that one jar of sauce.  So, if each person eats a chicken leg quarter, and each chicken leg quarter weighs about ¾ of a pound, I can feed 8 people delicious Buffalo Grilled Chicken for only $6.15.  Depending on the side dishes, I can spend $10 to feed 8 hungry people.  Not bad at just $1.25 per plate!


3 lbs chicken pieces

1 jar Buffalo wing sauce

1 plastic zippy bag
