I’ve been wanting to make these with the kiddos for awhile and finally got them up! These Reindeer Root Beer gifts are super, super cute and easy to make! These are perfect for gifts as well as fun snacks for the kiddos. You can use root beer for a kid-friendly version or try out some beer (they make the funnest packages that make these even cuter) to take to a Christmas or Holiday party. 😉

Root Beer Reindeer

INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 Pack Bottled Root Beer
  • 12 Wiggly Eyes
  • 6 Red Pom Poms (1/4″)
  • 9 Brown Pipe Cleaners
  • Ribbon for Scarves (optional)
  • Glue (either E6000 or Hot Glue)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Glue eyes on bottle neck.
  2. Glue red pom pom nose just below eyes.
  3. Take 3 pipe cleaners and cut them in half, then cut each of these halves in half.
  4. Wrap a pipe cleaner just below the bottle cap and twist in the back and bring ends up to make main antlers.
  5. Take one of the quarter pipe cleaners and twist it about 1 1/4″ from end each main antler.
  6. Repeat this process for each bottle.
  7. If you would like, cut a piece of ribbon and wrap like a scarf around the bottle. Use a dab of glue to hold together.
  8. NOTE: If you use the E6000, it needs to set for awhile before it will be tacky enough to stick to bottle.

Here’s another fun Halloween recipe. This one uses twinkies and turns them into mummies. I usually make these for Halloween parties or for a snack when the kids come home from school in October. You can really use any type of pastry dessert/candy bar you want for the body but we love Twinkies and I think they turn out adorable so that’s what we use.

Twinkie Mummies

Ingredients:

  • 16 oz White Melting Chips (White Chocolate)
  • 6 Twinkies
  • 12 Candy Eye Decorations 2

Directions:

  1. Place Twinkies in freezer for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare a baking sheet or cutting board by covering with parchment or wax paper.
  3. Melt candy chips by microwaving 30 seconds then stirring and repeating until melted.
  4. Dip each Twinkie in chocolate and roll to completely coat.
  5. Transfer to prepared paper. 3
  6. Place 2 eyes in each Twinkie.
  7. Allow to set for 3-4 minutes.
  8. Lift each Twinkie to separate from paper.
  9. Using a knife carefully trim excess chocolate that ran off of mummies.
  10. Transfer remaining melted chocolate to zippered bag and clip corner to pipe/drizzle.
  11. Drizzle chocolate back and forth across Twinkie (avoiding eyes) to get bandaged look.
  12. Allow to set.

Candy corn milkshakes?! YES, please! I know this may sound like bad idea but trust me, these milkshakes are the bomb. 😉 My kids beg me to make them so I figured I’d share the recipe since it’s almost Halloween. If you want to enjoy a yummy treat or just impress some guests (these look really cool) then you will want to do this next recipe. Enjoy!

Candy Corn Milkshakes

Ingredients:

  • 1 Quart Vanilla Ice Cream
  • 1 Quart Orange Sherbet
  • Whipped Cream or Cool Whip
  • Yellow Food Coloring 1

Directions:

  • Let your vanilla ice cream soften for about 25 minutes outside of the freezer. After the ice cream is softened take 1/3 of the ice cream and put it into a bowl and put the quart of vanilla ice cream back in the freezer. Add yellow food coloring to the ice cream in the bowl until the desired shade is obtained. Mix well. 2
  • Take your orange sherbet out of the freezer to allow it to start softening.
  • Fill your milkshake glasses with yellow ice cream into the bottoms, filling the cups about 1/3 full.I used this dessert decorator with no tip to put the softened ice cream in. It makes it so much easier and less messy. 3
  • Wipe down the inside of the cups with a paper towel to remove ice cream streaks. Place your cups in the freezer for 5-10 minutes to let the yellow layer harden a little.
  • Take your vanilla ice cream out of the freezer again to allow it to start softening.
  • Remove the cups from the freezer and carefully spoon in the orange sherbet now, filling the cups about 2/3 full, and again, smoothing out the top. Wipe the excess on the inside of the cups with a paper towel. Place the cups back in the freezer for 5-10 minutes.
  • Remove the cups from the freezer and add the final layer of vanilla ice cream, filling the cups within 1/2 inch from the top of the cup. Smooth out the tops again.
  • Top off your desserts with whipped cream or cool whip. Enjoy!

Homemade Pumpkin Puree

As we are in the midst of fall, pumpkin baking is getting more and more common and popular. The one ingredient all those recipes call for is pumpkin puree. Usually, canned pumpkin puree can be purchased from the store and used in baking and cooking recipes. However, to save some money you can make your own pumpkin puree at home with just a pumpkin, salt and your oven! Check out the instructions below for making homemade pumpkin puree:

Ingredients Needed:

  • Whole Pumpkin
  • Salt

Instructions:

  1. Wash the whole pumpkin and remove the stem. Cut the pumpkin in half and scrape out all the pumpkin insides and seeds.
  2. Once the pumpkin is clean on the inside, cut it into cubes. Next, fill a large pot with about 1″ of water and warm over medium heat.
  3. Add the pumpkin cubes and a dash two of salt to the water. Cook the pumpkin until water is simmering and reduce the heat to medium low.
  4. Using a pot lid, place it over top of the pumpkin and let the pumpkin cubes steam under the lid for about 15 minutes or until soft.
  5. Once the texture is soft, remove pumpkin from heat, drain the water and let the cubes cool till workable.
  6. Once the pumpkin cubes have cooled, scrap the meat of the pumpkin from the shell and place in a food processor or blender. Blend till smooth.
  7. Lastly, once your pumpkin has turned to a smooth texture, return it to the pot and cook off any remaining moisture.
  8. Remove from heat, let cool and use in any of your favorite recipes or freeze it to save it for when you need it!

Yummy! I love making scented play dough because it sure smells a lot better than the normal salty kind. Just be careful because the little ones like to try to eat it (although I did this with the normal kind when I was little). 😉 Below you will find directions to make 2 different scents. Enjoy!

DIY Play Dough

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup Flour
  • 2 tsp Cream of Tartar
  • 1/2 cup Salt
  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • Food Coloring (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a Medium Sized Pan whisk together your Flour, Salt and Cream of Tartar
  2. Add Water and Oil.
  3. Add Food Coloring if desired.
  4. Wisk until you have a smooth consistency with no lumps.
  5. Place your pan over low heat and stir constantly until your mixture thickens. This will take 3-5 minutes and you will need a strong arm. When you have a big ball/lump, your dough is finished.
  6. Knead your dough for a minute or two.
  7. Store in a Sealed container.

Gingerbread Scented Play Dough

  1. Just add these ingredients into the above dry ingredients
  2. 1 1/2 tsp Ginger
  3. 2 tsp Cinnamon
  4. 1/2 tsp Cloves
  5. 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
  6. Add 1/2 tsp Vanilla and blue, yellow and red food coloring into the wet ingredients until you have a brown color before placing on heat.

Peppermint Scented Play Dough
Just add 1/2 tsp peppermint extract and red food coloring into the above wet ingredients before placing on heat.

Below is a list of 750+ FREE Pumpkin Carving Stencils (Disney, Star Wars, Angry Birds, Celebrities and more!)! We use these every single year and make really fun pumpkins. It’s so much fun to let everyone pick out their favorite and they are actually very easy to do.

We will usually tape the stencil onto the pumpkin and use a pen to trace over the stencil (you will need to press hard as no ink will actually get on the pumpkin but it will create an indent so you can see what you did). Then take the stencil off and outline the indent you created again with the pen, then start carving! Here’s another tip, you can use a sponge and a little water (not too much or the pumpkin will mold) to clean off any pen marks left after carving.

Have fun…

When it comes to the Holidays, I love them oh so much but the food prep idea stresses me out. We like to eat the same thing every year but have made it a tradition to try out a new side dish or two every year. The following year we either keep it in the mix or kick it out depending on how much it was loved or not loved.

In my opinion, side dishes are what make a Thanksgiving dinner delicious. I look forward to a comforting, delicious side dish and it’s my favorite part of the dinner.

With that being said, below is a huge list of Thanksgiving side dishes you won’t want to leave out. They are all very tasty and will make your mouth water just looking at the pictures. Be sure to pin this so you can reference back to it on Thanksgiving for ideas.

caramel apple cookies

Repin It Here

If you’re looking for an outstanding and extremely delicious cookie recipe, you’ve come to the right place! I recommend bookmarking this recipe because you will be coming back for more. These caramel apple cookies are so full of flavor and the frosting is delicious. They take a little work but are actually very easy to make and totally worth it. Enjoy!

CARAMEL APPLE COOKIES

Yields: 2 dozen cookies

Prep Time: 25 minutes | Bake Time: 12 minutes

Ingredients:

Cookies:

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

2 small Granny Smith apples, peeled and chopped

1 tablespoon lemon juice

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup packed light brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup (scant, remove 1 tablespoon) frozen apple juice concentrate, thawed but still cold

Frosting:

½ cup packed light brown sugar

¼ cup butter

2 ½ tablespoons apple juice concentrate

1/8 teaspoon salt

2 ½ cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon water

½ cup finely chopped pecans

2

Directions:

For Cookies:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg for 20 seconds, set aside.
  3. Place peeled and chopped apples in food processor. Pulse a few times to chop coarsely – creating very small chunks. In a small bowl, combine finely chopped apple (including juices from the apples) and lemon juice, set aside. 3
  4. In the bowl of an electric stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, blend together butter and brown sugar until creamy – scrape down sides of bowl and bottom of bowl, occasionally. 4
  5. Mix in egg and vanilla extract. Add half of the flour mixture, and then (with mixer running on low speed), slowly add in apple juice concentrate, and remaining half of flour mixture. Add apple and lemon mixture. Scoop dough with a tablespoon and drop onto parchment paper lined baking sheets – placing cookies 2-inches apart. Bake in preheated oven 11-12 minutes. Cook on baking sheet before transferring to wire rack to completely cool. 5 6

For Frosting:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, apple juice concentrate and salt. 7
  2. Heat mixture over medium heat and cook, whisking constantly until sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and whisk in powdered sugar until smooth. Spread over cookies, and immediately sprinkle with pecans as frosting sets quickly.

Notes: As frosting cools, it will thicken – so add ½ tsp. warm water at a time to thin as needed for a more spreadable consistency. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature.

As most of you know, I love making poke cakes because they are full of flavor (literally) since you are poking holes in it and then pouring in your strawberry! The cheesecake flavor is in the pudding topping and the inside of the poke cake is strawberry. This really turns out delicious and is a great way to impress your guests. It’s also a really cute Valentine’s Day dessert. Enjoy!

Enjoy!
