Hay cool recipe, just one question, do you mix the batter up with the oil, water, egg it requires on the box for cake, or do you just use the dry mix , with the butter on top?

When I have made it before, you just sprinkle the cake mix on top and drizzle with butter. No other mixing involved. Enjoy. I have also did my in the oven.

Does this go into the regular round crock pot or the elongated one? I’m making it now and put it in the regular one, so if that doesn’t work, I will try the elongated one.

The shape of the crock pot should not make a difference.

Just thought I would let you know that the written ingredients are incorrect. It calls for a 1/2 cup of butter not 1 cup. 1 stick is a half cup of butter. The phot is right but the ingredients list is wrong 🙁 I tried to make it last night and it didn’t turn out good. Someone posted a similar recipe on FB and that is where I figured out what happened 🙂

Do we use 1 cup of butter, or 1stick…which would equal 1/2 cup?

Glad I followed the written directions. A cup of butter you say? *blinking * So gross! I do like the guy a few comments up saying “the directions are crystal clear” ….. and wrong Mr. Cooldude#1

works a lot better if you mix the melted butter with the cake mix. no dry patches of mix.

I used blueberry pie filling instead of cherry and found that this dessert was WAY too sweet for me. It was good, but too sweet. So … I just tried it again, using frozen berries instead of pie filling. It works just as well and is not as sweet, allowing the natural tartness of the berries to come through. It’s a keeper!

@Maryanne RE: Crockpot Cherry Dump Cake. When you use Frozen Blackberries do you need to include any other type of liquid or will the melting of the berries be enough liquid for this recipe…and…comment posts in 2014 reference using 1 stick of butter rather than the printed recipe calling for 2 (1C)…. which is accurate? Thank You!

Using frozen berries … no other liquid is required. It turns out perfectly. As for the butter: one stick which equals 1/2 cup. The photo in the recipe is correct; the written list of ingredients is wrong. One stick of butter was what I used and I think everything would have been pretty soggy if I’d used 1 cup.
