Copycat Five Guys Burgers at home
Five Guys Burgers rose to fame when a president stopped in for lunch one day. Since then, their business is expanded and fortunately (or possibly unfortunately), one was open down the street from my home. I heard from a couple of friends how wonderful the burgers were so I decided to go down and try them. I was quite impressed. The burgers are always two patties and the list of toppings is pretty darn long. My personal favorite is a bacon cheeseburger with mayonnaise, spicy brown mustard, and sauteed mushrooms and onions. Since I’m trying to save money and not go out to eat as much I decided to try making Copycat Five Guys Burgers at home. I have to say, I’m hooked.
What Makes Copycat Five Guys Burgers Special
There are a couple of things that make Copycat Five Guys Burgers special. They season their burgers on the grill with a simple salt and pepper seasoning. I use my pancake griddle cook burgers and it really made the difference in imitating the original. Another thing that makes Copycat Five Guys Burgers like the original is placing the cheese between the patties as well as on top. Piling on the toppings, whatever toppings you like, personalizes the burger and make it something you’re going to absolutely love.
Toppings, Toppings, Toppings for your Copycat Five Guys Burger
The list of toppings for the original burger are seemingly endless. Things that you normally see like lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, and onions are all available. And then add in things a little different like grilled onions and mushrooms, jalapeno peppers, and green peppers and you have a good burger. So when making your Copycat Five Guys Burgers, step outside the box a little bit and try a topping that you might not have had before. You’ll love the results.
1 lb ground beef
6 slices bacon
1 C mushrooms, sliced
1 C onion, diced
1 T butter
4 slices American cheese
2 hamburger buns
Mayo, mustard, ketchup, etc
Heat oven to 425 degrees F. Place the bacon on a baking sheet and bake until crispy, about 10 minutes.
Place the butter in a saute pan over medium heat. Add the mushrooms and onions and saute until caramelized, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat.
Make 4 patties out of the ground beef.
Heat a griddle to medium heat and place the patties on the hot surface. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until edges are cooked. Flip and cook another few minutes, until the burgers are done throughout.
To assemble the burger, place the bottom half of bun on a plate. Add mayo, mustard, or other condiments. Place a burger, top with cheese, then another burger and cheese. Top with bacon and sauteed veggies. Place the top of the bun on the burger.
Repeat with remaining ingredients.
Copycat Five Guys Burgers are fantastic way to have a burger your way at home for less.
