Coupon Jargon – Say What?!

There are a lot of times when I will refer to something as 11/28 RP, and you new coupon users out there will say “huh?!”. So I’ve compiled a list of different abbreviations often referred to in the coupon world. If you can think of anything else you’d like me to add to the list, please let me know!

  • ECB– Extra Care Buck (CVS store credit voucher that will print when specific items are purchased)
  • RR– Register Rewards (Walgreens store credit voucher that will print when specific items are purchased) – these do not “roll”, meaning if you purchase the same item you received the voucher for, another one will NOT print.
  • +Up– Rite Aid store credit voucher that will print when specific items are purchased – these DO “roll”!
  • P&G-Proctor and Gamble
  • SP-Stockpile
  • SS-Smart Source coupon insert
  • PG-Proctor and Gamble coupon insert
  • RP– Red Plum coupon insert
  • Peelies-sticker like coupons found on products.
  • ECB-Extra Care Bucks (CVS money)
  • RR– Register Reward (Walgreens money)
  • MQ-Manufacturers Coupon
  • OOP-Out of Pocket Expense
  • Q or CPN-Coupon
  • YMMV-Your Mileage May Vary (A deal may work for someone else, but may not for you.)
  • TMF-Try Me Free offer
  • FAR-Free After Rebate
  • CAT-Catalina coupon (Manufacturer coupons that print out from a machine at the register depending on what you uy.)
  • B1G1F, B2G1F-”Buy one get one Free”, “Buy two get one Free”
  • TEAR PAD– A pad of refund forms or coupons hanging on a shelf at the store.
  • BLINKIE-A machine that spits out coupons.
  • UPC-Universal product code (those black straight lines with numbers under them)
  • POP-Proof of purchase (like a product label or UPC)
  • DCRT-Dated cash register receipt
  • GC-Gift Card

      Hi Sheri,

A stockpile is when you stock up on a product when it’s a great price or FREE, that way you don’t have to pay full price for it because you have a large stock of it. =)

If a store has a sale that is buy 2 get 1 free, and you stack it with another b2g1 free coupon, how many items is paid for? free? i know for BOGO sales, with a BOGO coupon, they are both free, but i dont get the other example.

Thanks in advance for your help =)

This actually made my brain hurt for a minute lol. But I believe you would end up getting 2 items for free. Essentially, you have three of one item so the store would discount you for 1 item with their sale and the coupon will get you a discount on another.

I wish I could get the hang of this! I just don’t get how people get so much for so cheap…. do you use more than 1 coupon for 1 item?……….. I just don’t get it!

You can use 2 coupons for an item if your store allows stacking. This is when you have a manufacturer coupon (something you cut out of the paper etc) and a store coupon sent out in that store’s circular (like in the back of the publix circular). Here’s a recent example on a deal I got. I clipped a $1 coupon off Truvia in the sunday paper and publix also had a $1 off coupon in their store circular that I clipped from a previous week. a few days ago Truvia went on sale a publix for $3.99. Because I could use both coupons it was only $1.99. Also, let’s say that instead of it going on sale it was BOGO for $5.99. BOGO’s really just lower the price on each item and you don’t have to by both to get the discount. So if I had bought only one box that would be $2.96 per box ($5/2 boxes). With my $2 in coupons it would drop the price to .96 a box. Same principle applies to a 2 for deal. (like, 2 of something for $5.) HTH!

I LOVE b1g1 sales because you can use 2 coupons! One for each item you are getting which usually makes things free or close to it!

I noticed a lot of the coupons in the RP and SS say “One coupon per purchased” How do you work around that to purchase more then one item. I’m new to couponing and don’t understand some of this fine print.

    Thank you!!!

I was looking for some of the Walgreen deals you listed this week and my Smart Source doesn’t have hardly any of the coupons. Are there different Smart Source ads for different areas in the country. I’m from Ohio. I really like your website better than any other. If I am in a different region and don’t have the same coupons could you recommend a good website in southwestern Ohio. I’ve been on a few and they seem very incomplete compared to yours. They were missing lots of deals that readers would suggest.
I just started doing this 2 weeks ago. Before I just went to Walmart and bought everything there. This is very exciting.

Can someone explain the Albertson’s Doubler please! Do you have a coupon that doubles your coupon or does the store pick certain items they choose that doubles your coupon if you have one? I am seeing the list RHC makes with Albertson’s Doubler ideas but can’t find the “doubler”!! Thanks! 🙂

Question: I read on another site that if you have 2 buy one get one free coupons, you can purchase just two items and use two coupons, so you are getting both free. Is this true? I have always thought that if I had two coupons, I would have to buy two and then get two free.

I feel like I have such a dumb question. I always disregard the coupons for example (for cereal) $1.00 off THREE boxes…so does this mean I have to buy 3 boxes of cereal and I only get $1.00 off – or would that be $1 off EACH box?

    Hi, I love your site!

I have a couple of questions — one, how do I tell if two coupons are “unique”? And if they are, can I use more than one coupon on the same, i.e. use two 75 cents-off coupons and get $1.50 off the same item? (I shop most often at Wal-Mart).

I also wondered if I will receive free samples if I don’t opt to sign up for their newsletters/promotions? I’m always afraid that if I don’t check that box I won’t get my sample, but I also don’t want a bunch of spam.
