Looking for something to do with your kiddos this summer, but don’t really have the money or time to take off for a vacation? Here is a list of some ideas to relieve you from your summertime boredom! I would suggest creating a list of things you would like to do this summer, hanging it on the fridge & marking it off as you accomplish each summer task.
Inexpensive or Free

- Zoo **Usually kids under 3 in free**
- Fishing
- Freshly Squeezed Lemon aid
- Make Popsicle out of Kool-Aid
- Swim **Usually kids under 3 can swim for free**
- Movie Night **Netflix rentals only $1**
- Water park **Usually kids under 3 can swim for free**
- Cookout
- Drive in movie
- Picnic
- Fireworks **Check local listing for events around your area that will provide Free Firework**
- Fly Kites
- Mini Golf
- Camping
- Sidewalk Chalk
- Tie Die Shirts
- Water Fights **Get creative! Paint the fence/ sidewalks using water ((IT DRIES CLEAR))**
- Check your local libraries for age appropriate activities & events for your children, you can check out books or even join story time!
- Treasure hunt
- Make cars out of boxes then have a pretend “drive-in movie”
- Hiking
- Trip to the Park ** Go early, pack your lunches & leave before it gets to *HOT* outside**
- Let your kiddos plan dinner dinner on a certain day of the week
- Check your Community for scheduled Festivals or BBQs
- Family Game Night
- Catch Bugs
- Bike Rides
- Feed Ducks
- Visit Grandparents
- Visit a fire department
- Build a fort! Gather sticks, broken branches, etc. build a fort, or house this will provide days worth of enjoyment both in the gathering/building/playing inside.
- Take an ”Alphabet tour”
- Check out kids free days at your museums.
- Host a neighborhood carnival
- Go to an outdoor concert
- Go to the movies **usually morning showings are free**
- Check out your local hardware store **they offer free kids club building projects.**
- Make sock puppets
- Go outside for reading time.
- Have a tea party.
- Make an obstacle course out of your back yard and have races.
- Plant a garden using seeds from your vegetables/fruits.
- Tour local historic sites.
- Check with a local farms – **Some may allow your kiddos to help feed the animals*
- Set up a lemonade stand.
- Check your craft stores for make and take craft projects (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.).
- Make musical instruments and become a ‘home band’ sensation! **pie pan tamborine, papertowl holder rain stick, string and cereal box guitar**
- Make a tent in the living room.
- Make a bird feeder with pine cones & peanut butter (and bird seed of course).
- Check out local VBS offerings – **a lot of time you can volunteer while your kids attend**
- Play “I Spy” as you walk around your neighborhood.
- Go to a farmers market.
- Have a major league team in your area – call about free kids tickets this summer.
- Take a trip to tour your state capitol, local courthouse, etc.
- Make Pet Rocks by painting them.
- Have a pajama day, enjoy movies and popcorn.
