So I tried this tonight and it didn’t come out anywhere near hot pink. It is a dull orangeish pink. I made the non-alcoholic version. Does the alcohol make it the vibrant pink in the picture or is that photoshopped into a different color than it actually is?

    • Caroline says

The liquors are clear so it should look about the same as when the 7-up is added to the nonalcoholic version. You’d have to dump in some kind of food coloring to make it vibrant like that, but it’s most likely photoshopped. Still sounds tasty, though!

We made both (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) yesterday for my friend’s daughter’s Barbie party and they were NOT hot pink. They both came out the same color: dull orangeish, like Lisa said in the comment above. They both tasted good, but we were dissapointed because we were really going for the HOT PINK color.

  3. Cynthia says

Mine was orangey looking, too! Sucks because I pretty much only made it because I was obsessed with the color.

Guys. This is just a recipe for Sex on the Beach. Y U NO KNO DRINKZ!?
Also, the color pink is directly correlated to the amount of cranberry juice and lack of orange juice that you put in. Change the orange juice to triple sec and it’ll be more pink.

  5. Heather says

As an experienced bartender I can assure you achieving that color with only those ingredients is impossible. Most likely grenadine and some hot pink food coloring were added. Especially to a non-alcoholic version.

  6. Heather says

And that is not the recipe for Sex on the Beach. That’s particular drink consists of 1 part vodka 1 part peach schnapps equal parts oj and cranberry and splash of grenadine for the sunset effect. Garnished with orange wedge and a cherry.
