The Today Show posted a story about how Metal Water Bottles can be dangerous especially for kids. Children are actually getting their tongues stuck in them and it’s creating serious surgeries for some (you can see in the video below). This sounds like a joke, but it’s not. I guess when they stick their tongue in it (which most do) it creates some kind of a suction and can pull the tongue in, swell it up a little and cause it to get stuck since the metal cannot expand (this doesn’t happen with plastic because it can expand). This can then cause a blockage in the airway or cause the tongue to die and they would then lose their speech.
I know this seems rare and is, but there have been a few different cases lately and some companies have already stopped selling these because of it.
I recommend either telling your kiddos to NOT stick their tongue in the metal bottle (if they are old enough to understand), getting the ones with different caps on them or straws, or just getting rid of them. See the story here.

January 9, 2013 at 9:32 amI also saw where there were sipper tips that could be purchased and placed on top. It’s another alternative to the risk and you don’t have to get rid f the bottles.
