I normally don’t post things like this but something inside me felt the need to post it (who knows, maybe one of you will be his match)…So, this 4 year old boy Kyle needs a bone marrow transplant.
There have been 9 million bone marrow donors except none have matched him. Kyle needs a match that is half-Asian and half-Caucasian.
It’s SUPER easy to check if you are a donor, you can request a kit by mail and you just have to swab your cheek to check, that’s it!
Hopefully this helps get the word out and if everyone were to “Share” this, imagine how many more people we would reach. I pray that one of you may be the donor.
You must be between the ages of 18 and 60 and in good general health. How truly amazing would that be if one of you were the match…
Thanks, Thrifty Wifey
My husband is half asian/ half caucasian. We’re going to request a kit…how amazing would it be to help this little boy! Thank you for posting this!
I wish my boys were old enough…They are half Asian and half Caucasian…They are only 8 and 3 though 🙁 I hope they find him a match.
I dont think they have to be any certain age
It says you have to be between 18 and 60 :o)
ok perhaps this is a silly question but can you ONLY be a match if you are a 1/2 Asian 1/2 Caucasian male?
I was wondering the same. My kids are half asian half caucasian but they are all too young.
I actually watched a show about this before. It’s very hard to find matches for people that are mixed. It almost always has to come from a person that is the same mix as the patient.
Even if you aren’t a match for this little boy won’t it put us on a national list for anyone waiting?? Can you get more than one test kit to do say your whole church/school if they want to participate?
my ? is what if you dont know what you are mixed with? I dont know my father and so i dont know what i am mixed with, people tell me asian all the time iand i am white. i sent out for the kit still but
I have a few of those answers for you ladies who have posted. You do not have to be male to donate and possibly match, ethnicity is what’s important here. The swabs come with a postage paid envelope and once you send it back you are registered nationally so you could get a call at anytime in the near future or even in ten years. Whenever we change phone numbers we ensure to contact the registry to update our info with them.
To the commenter who doesn’t know their ethnicity, that’s ok, they screen and test and if your a possible match they will contact you to ask for more information and further blood screening, they will be able to tell what ethnicity you are by their testing.
As far as requesting large numbers of kits you would have to contact the registry as they can help you set up a drive. There is a basic health questionnaire you take either online when requesting your kit or when it arrives as there are certain medical conditions that would exclude you from being a donor.
To those considering it I highly encourage you to do so. You never know when you could get that call and it’s such a selfless act. Your donation could possibly be the sole reason another person stays alive.
Thank you so much for answering some of our questions! =)
i registered so as well as helping another soul out i will be able to find out my etnicity to?
I can not help Kyle because I am not Asian at all, but I got the kit anyway. I had a cousin die of luekemia at 21. I was too young to register so better late than never I suppose.
Thanks for posting this. I shared it with my cousin who is half white and half asian. He has a lot of friends that are mixed race as well. I hope they try to help this little boy. My grandfather died of leukemia at 46 and left a wife and 9 children behind. My youngest boy’s great grandfather on his dad’s side also died of leukemia. Double whammy. It scares me.
it costs to register/request a kit?
I’m not Asian but, I’m my father just found out he has leukemia right before Thanksgiving and I’m heartbroken over it all..so I want to get registered. One day my dad may need it and if I can’t help maybe someone can….I will pray that a match is found for little Kyle. I have three kids of my own and two are between his age and I couldn’t imagine the pain and worry this family is having…my God be with you all and find a donor!
What if there is a donor match that is under 18 I have 2 nieces that are 1/2 caucasian 1/2 Vietnamese they are 8 and 14 years old If it is not life threating to do why does the age matter if the parents are willing to help if their child is a match. Hope someone can answer this for me.
It matters because children have rights too. Just because their parents consent to something doesn’t mean that children do as well. The donation process consists of a surgical procedure and if a child doesn’t NEED surgery, they really shouldn’t be put through surgery as there are risks that are associated with surgery.
I wanted to register for the bone marrow registry, but I have a life-threatening allergy, so that knocks me out of the list of potential donors. Breaks my heart.
what about half philipino and half white????
I am so saddened by this story and others just like it. I have tried to donate, from blood to marrow. They won’t take mine because of my heart condition 🙁 Please everyone, it only takes a second to find out if you can donate. I can’t but maybe you can.
Please let us know when this little boys life is saved! We would love to hear the happy ending!(:
Unfortunately, myself or anyone that I know would be eligible to help):
I’m not of asian mix, but I’ve really been wanting to get on the list. It would be truly amazing to be able to help someone like this. My grandfather died of leukemia. I just hope they will except me, I’m military living over seas.
