Natural Ways To Get Rid Of Ants
Now that summer has arrived, so have the ants! They start showing up one by one, and before you know it you have a colony roaming around your house and no way to get rid of them. There is some traditional methods for getting rid of ants such as sprays and traps. But what if you want to get rid of them without the use of harsh chemicals? Well look no further! Check out the list below to find out how to get rid of pesky ants the natural way:
- Baby Powder: You can dust this directly on to the ants when you see them and at all entry points where you think they might be entering.
- Cucumber Peelings: Leave cucumber peelings in the areas where ants appear, these peelings are toxic to ants and will ward them off.
- Vinegar & Water Wipe: Wipe down any surfaces where ants appear. Counter tops, tables, and even cupboards. They dislike the smell of vinegar, ultimately keeping them away.
- Bay Leaves & Cloves: Another smell related trap for the ants. They’ll stay away from the smells they hate most!
- Coffee Grounds: These can be spread around your house, but the best place for the grounds is the garden. It will keep your flowers and plants ant free!
- Chalk: Draw chalk lines from there point of entry. They will avoid it like the plague!
- Lemon Juice: Dabbing lemon juice around doors and windows can keep ants away.
- Baking Soda & Powdered Sugar: If your looking to do more then keeping ants away use this little mixture to kill the small intruders! Mix 1 part baking soda with 1 part powdered sugar. The sugar will attract them and the baking soda will kill them.
- Cinnamon: Using this in the powdered form or in an essential oil spray can do wonders for keeping ants away and is easy to clean up.
- Cornmeal: This is best used out on your deck to get ants away from your patio or garden area. Just sprinkle cornmeal in high traffic areas.
Boiling hot water directly on a swarm of ants and on the anthill works wonders too
LOL your method is probably very self-satisfying too! Picturing myself cackling wildly as I dump boiling water on a fire ant hill! “MWAH-hahaha! DIE! DIE!”
The Cinnamon does not work, we tried that in powder form, and mixed with water to form a line. I dusted entire bathroom floor, and it stained the tiles. Maybe I have Texas ants that love cinnamon… of to try some others on the list to get them redirected. Thank you.
The cinnamon didn’t work for me either. In fact, I tried most of these methods with no success. I’ve just stuck with pouring boiling water into the ant hills and buying the little ant traps at the store. It’s the only thing that has actually gotten and kept the ants out of the house.
Hey, that’s cruelty and genocide, you freak! You hurt animals, I’ll hurt you!!
Ants are not animals! They are insects.
Thank you new things to try because ive tried everything!
I just did my wood floor around my computer desk with vinegar water and I have not seen any ants… even the mice disappeared!!! IF this is what did it, I will be a dedicated user from now on!!! <3 <3 <3
Anything for box elder bugs?
I have a colony of larger ants outside along the foundation. Will these methods work there, too? Also, had sugar ants in basement. After wiping up floor with bleach water, haven’t seen any.
I should have known a couple of months ago. #plague
Great work! That is the kind of info that should be shared around the internet.
Shame on the seek engines for now not positioning this submit upper!
Come on over and talk over with my website . Thank you =)
The chalk works great! I used it a long time ago in some of mu kitchen cupboards where I store dishes. The ants never crossed the lines…..
This is really interesting, You are an excessively professional blogger.
I have joined your feed and look ahead to looking for more of your magnificent post.
Additionally, I’ve shared your site in my social networks
In a ziplock bag, mix together 1 small can of cat food with some borax (20 Mule; like for the washing machine), with gloves on, pinch off a small ball and place where the ants are coming into your house. The ants will bring the treat to the queen & it will kill her and her colony. Not safe around pets or children.
Black pepper works as well
One natural tip that DOES work, though, is collecting used coffee grounds and putting them on top of the ants nests in your yard. Apparently the ants all eat it and die. I’ve been using this tip for about 5 months now and it does appear to really work….:D
I pay a visit each day a few web pages and sites

Recently moved to MS and the roaches are huge here! And they fly! Do you have any ideas how to get rid of them? I have cats and dogs too.
Use Borax! Powder it in your cupboards, (or wherever you see them most) & shut the doors. They will be dead within a week! I moved to Springfield, MS, didn’t know what they were. Neighbor told me about Borax. History in 7 days! You will be sweeping their remains up. But they don’t come back!
