- Red Food Coloring
- Peppermint Essentials Oil (found near Candle Making Supplies at Hobby Lobby or Online)
DIRECTIONS:
- Pour sugar into medium sized bowl.
- Mix in coconut oil (add more if you like a wet consistency).
- Add a few drops of your Peppermint Essentials Oil.
- Divide your sugar mixture into two equal sized portions.
- Mix in a few drops of red food coloring to one portion (be careful not to add to much or you will have a bright red).
- Add your sugars to the jar in layers. Press your Sugar down with a spoon or I use a can to compact.
- Alternate between your pink and white layers
- Add a Label to the front and maybe a ribbon to gift.
Is there any worry that the red food coloring would stain your face?
I would avoid peppermint on the face. It is great for your feet & legs! If you use the scrub in the shower/bath the red should rinse right off.
There is a pure peppermint extract made by McCormick found in the baking section at Wal-Mart. Do you think this would be comparable to the Peppermint Essentials oil?
I found a recipe that you can use 1 tbsp of peppermint extract. You may want to add a little more Coconut oil if you are not using the Peppermint oil. My daughter loved making it for her teachers!
I made this recipe and I noticed that it’s very hard in the jar I follow the recipe to a t to make it more moist what do I need to add
When using peppermint essential oil, look at the “WARNING: SKIN IRRITANT” from Hobby Lobby.
Get Peppermint essential oil at a Natural Food store.
I am curious as well. Are extracts ok in place of essential oils? As they are edible, I would like to think they would be safe for skin/body…..
Yes they are safe and edible!
My 2 year old loves it :/ iys just sugar, cococnut oil and peppermint oil.
How big of a jar did you use?
How much essential oil did you add?
I just finished a batch…a large batch, as favors for a party…Its October, so perfect for Breast Cancer Awareness month!
How long doestthe scrub keep for!
Do you heat the coconut first? It doesn’t seem to be as wet as others I’ve used. I even doubled the amount of coconut oil.
I heated mine a little bit. It worked better that way.
How long do these last?
