If you’ve never had Sweet Potato fries you’re definitely missing out. These are great for snacking on and are super healthy (much better than deep fried french fries). Sweet potatoes are high in vitamin B6, Vitamin C and much more. These are also great if you are trying to lose weight and need a super snack. I will make them and store them in a ziploc bag for munching on. They are fantastic for kiddos lunches too. Enjoy…
Sweet Potato Fries
What you need:
- 2 lb Sweet Potatoes
- 2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 1/8 tsp Salt
- 1/8 tsp Pepper
- 1/8 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1/8 tsp Paprika
What to do:
- Preheat oven to 450.
- Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut sweet potatoes into 1/4″ fries.
- Toss fries in olive oil to coat.
- Spread fries out on prepared baking sheet.
- Cook 20 minutes turning occasionally or until fries are browned.
Sweet potato fries are my favorite. They are really good with some Cajun seasoning and/or a little smoked paprika too. You get that sweet/smokey/spicy mix going on then bite into that sea salt … yum!
My daughter just said, “Mommy, I don’t like the fries…I LOVE them!” Thank you for this! My whole non-sweet potato eating family loves them!
Stupid question probably but do you peel your potatoes or leave skin on and scrub them before cutting into fries??
it looks as if these were peeled.
You can do either.
I always leave the skin on potatoes, theirs vitamins and nutrients in them. It doesn’t much change the flavor or texture. We love them like that. 😉
Hi,
Do you mix the spices with the olive oil before you add the fries??
You can season them after you’ve oiled them – either in the same bowl in which you oil them or after you’ve put them onto the pan. If you do the latter, remember to season on the other side too
How do you add the spices? In the olive oil or do you mix the spices and sprinkle the fries with it after you coat them in oil?
These were amazing! A huge hit for the family, the whole plate was gone within a minute on the table…I used cayenne pepper in place of paprika (we were out) and it gave it a great little kick 🙂
I made these tonight, but sadly they weren’t what I expected. They were mushy & not very tasty, I baked for 30 min and the edges were burnt but the middle was mushy. They didn’t even make it to our plates we thru them away ):
Some people soak normal potatoes after they are cut in very cold water for about 30-60 minutes.. apparently it makes the fries more crispy. I wonder if its the same for sweet potato fries?
I think I will try that when I make this recipe.
I know what could have happened.
1. Your oven was not hot enough to start with. Always pre-heat 10 degreed higher to when the oven door opens it compensates for the heat loss. Once your food is in the oven, turn the heat to the correct temperature.
2. You used ceramic, pottery or tin, but the latter with a too high edge.Oven roasted veggies (any kind) don’t want edges like a roasting pan for chicken. The edges seem to make steam accumulate and loose the crispness.
3. The baking tin was too full. You need space between the veggies for it to go crisp.
I hope this helps!
Love these! I pair mine with an amazing dipping sauce! Sour cream, lime juice, and a big scoop of garlic chili sauce( the one with the green lid), then top it with fresh chopped cilantro! Amazing!!
I had never made sweet potato fries before & flipped through Pinterest to find this recipe. They turned out dee-lish. Thanks!
You ought to take part in a contest for one of the greatest sites on the net.
I most certainly will highly recommend this blog!
Just made them-very mushy! Good flavor but very mushy 🙁
These were super yummy! Also added some curry and cinnamon – you can never go wrong with sweet potatoes and cinnamon right? Thanks for the inspiration 🙂
Is it me or does that look like a whole lot more than 1/8 tsp of seasonings (particularly paprika) on the close up of the fries seasoned? And to those asking or wondering, based on that photo, it looks like the fries were sprinkled with seasoning on the pan after being tossed in olive oil. That’s what I did, anyway. As other people were saying the comments, I had an issue with them being a bit mushy, too. I have a small oven so I cooked them low and slow and turned them multiple times, but it was still an issue. I cooked them for as long as I could without burning them and they had good flavor, but they would have tasted a whole lot better had they been cooked fully through. Not sure what to do differently.
Try coating them with some cornstarch or baking powder to get them crispy
