Low Cost Recipes – Quick Herbed Biscuit Loaf

I love to have big salads during the summer.  It’s always nice to have a bread, especially a buttery garlic bread, to add on the side.  And I’m always looking for an inexpensive and fresh way to make garlic bread happen on my table.  So with a tube of instant biscuits in hand, I set out to make a pretty little bubble loaf that would be perfect with any salad I could conjure up and would qualify to be in my Low Cost Recipes.

Tons of Flavor in Low Cost Recipes

Just because it’s in my Low Cost Recipes category doesn’t mean it’s low on flavor!  Herbs and garlic add vivid flavor to this quick dish, without adding a lot of cost.  I love the herbs at the dollar stores.  They are a great inexpensive way to add flavor to Low Cost Recipes without adding a high price tag!

So Much Versatility in Quick Herbed Biscuit Loaf

If you are like me, loving salads all summer, Quick Herbed Biscuit Loaf is a great accompaniment to a simple meal.  But who wants the same loaf every time?  Change it up!  Different herbs, such as rosemary, or adding cheeses such as feta or Parmesan, can change up this recipe to be something a little different each time.

1 tube refrigerated biscuits

1 stick butter, melted

1 T garlic, minced

1 t basil

1 t oregano

Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

Add the garlic, basil, and oregano to the melted butter.  Stir.

Separate the biscuits and cut each of  them into 6 pieces.  Roll into balls and drop in the melted butter, 1 roll at a time.

Stir, and remove with a slotted spoon to a buttered bread pan.

Repeat with remaining biscuits.

Spoon some of the remaining butter mixture over the top.

Bake for 20 minutes, until golden brown.

Allow to cool in the pan for 5 minutes.

Turn out onto a plate and brush with remaining butter mixture.

Serve warm.

Even Sausage Gravy and Biscuits Can Be Gluten Free!

I love cooking gluten free.  I have a lot of friends that are either allergic to wheat or gluten, and it’s a great way to rethink traditional recipes.  The gravy in Sausage Gravy and Biscuits is a simple white sauce made with tapioca and potato starches instead of wheat flour, giving the sauce a thick, creamy texture that is beyond amazing.

Gluten Free Sausage Gravy and Biscuits Doesn’t Have to Be Taste Free

Just because you are cooking gluten free doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice the taste of your favorite dishes!  Many people think that the gluten free diet is bland and boring, and that you have to give up your favorite wheat-filled foods.  That couldn’t be further from the truth!  There are a lot of ways to make your favorite dishes, even Sausage Gravy and Biscuits,  without the gluten or wheat.  Almond flour, tapioca starch, and potato starch are great substitutions for wheat flour, when used in the right amounts.  There are a lot of great books and websites out there that give you substitution amounts and combinations for different types of foods.
