Black and White Cake ~ Not Just for Special Occasions

Sometimes a simple cake, like Black and White Cake, can turn an every day meal into something pretty special.  The secret of this cake is how incredibly easy it is to prepare and bake.  A cake mix straight off the shelf, and a filling of cream cheese, egg, and sugar is all it takes to make this delicious dessert.

If you have a bundt or angel food pan, this will work great in it.  If you don’t, however, there is another way to assemble this and have the creamy filling: cupcakes!  So don’t worry if you don’t have a fancy pan.  You can still have the fancy taste of Black and White Cake, in a smaller, portable form.

To Frost or Not to Frost a Black and White Cake

While this cake needs no frosting, a simple glaze of powdered sugar and milk would be a nice addition.  Simply whisk milk into the sugar until you get the consistency you like, then drizzle over the top.  The fudgy Black and White Cake will absorb some of it and leave a nice sugary glaze.

Black and White Cake Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 boxed fudge cake mix and ingredients to prepare
  • 1 8 oz pkg cream cheese, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 C sugar

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Prepare the cake mix as instructed on the package.
  3. Whip the cream cheese, egg, and sugar until smooth.
  4. Grease a bundt or angel food pan. Pour 3/4 of the cake batter into the pan evenly.
  5. Spoon the cream cheese mixture into the center of the cake batter, keeping it from the edges.
  6. Pour the rest of the cake batter evenly in the pan.
  7. Bake for 45 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan until the pan is cool to the touch. Place a plate, upside down, over the pan. Flip the pan and plate to release the cake onto the plate. Let cool completely.
  9. Serve as is, or with fruit or ice cream.
