It seems to me that one of the most over priced items in stores, is dish soap! Here we have found a way to save you a bunch of money a year by making your own liquid dish soap!

Ingredients:
1/2 cup grated soap
4 cups water
1/2 Tbs vegetable glycerin (optional: used as a hand moisturizer)
10-20 drops of tea tree oil (anti-bacterial) if you like the smell you can add more if not add the lesser.

Directions: Grate bar of soap. In a saucepan add water and 1/2 cup grated soap. Over low/medium heat gently heat without bringing to a boil until all the soap has dissolved. Add in vegetable glycerin and stir well. Place in a jar. After cooling for a short time (30 minutes to an hour) add in tea tree oil and allow to set up for 24 hours, stirring occasionally.

Pan Fried Green Beans are one of those amazing foods that once you have them, you wonder why you didn’t think of that before.  I started making these when I purchased a bag of green and yellow beans mixed with baby carrots.  I couldn’t think of a way to cook them besides steaming them, until I put a frying pan away.  What if I sauted them in some butter to caramelize them a bit, then steamed them the rest of the way?  The only way I’d find out is if I tried.

My family loved them!  I’ve seasoned them several different ways, and they are always well liked.  I’ve switched to fresh green beans, when I can get them, and it’s made the Pan Fried Green Beans even better.  It pairs well with just about everything, from fish to beef.  Add a little onion or garlic to the dish as it’s cooking for another layer of flavor or to change up the dish and keep it fresh.

  2. Add the green beans and saute until they start to caramelize, turning once or twice.

Pan Fried Green Beans from the Freezer

If green beans aren’t in season, or there was a great sale on frozen veggies, try making it with a bag of your favorite frozen green beans.  Simply rinse the beans in water and let them drip dry for a few minutes.  This will remove the ice from the beans and allow them to saute more easily and brown evenly.  Add other veggies as you like too!  Summer squash or zucchini makes a great addition to the mix!

Next time you stop by a farmer’s market or green beans are on sale at the grocery store, pick some up!  Rinse them off and snap off the ends, then get ready for a treat for your taste buds!  Pan Fried Green Beans is a fast, wonderful side dish to make your dinner something special every time.

It’s not very frugal when you have to throw lettuce away because it got soggy, moldy, smelly and just nasty. So use this tip to help make your lettuce last longer!

Did you know…

You can very easily keep your lettuce fresh and crisp with this simple trick…Just put a paper towel in with your lettuce (on top and bottom) and cover with plastic wrap! That’s it! The paper towel will absorb the moisture on the lettuce which is what would wilt it if you didn’t do this.  🙂
