Blueberry Basil Popsicles for a Change of Pace

Popsicles are becoming the rage this summer, and everyone seems to have a great recipe for something new.  I recently purchased a popsicle mold and I’m experimenting with as many things as I can think of.  Since I love Greek yogurt, it was a natural thing to add to my popsicle repertoire.  All you need is a blender, popsicle mold, and your popsicle ingredients, and you are in business for a summer of deliciously frozen treats.  Blueberry Basil Popsicles are fresh, fruity, and best of all, filled with good things like protein and vitamins, that keep you going on hot summer days.

Good Blueberry Basil Popsicles Start with Fresh Blueberries and Basil

It’s blueberry season in many parts of the country, which makes Blueberry Basil Popsicles amazing.  Fresh picked blueberries are delicious in many dishes, but the flavor really pops when you blend them with blueberry Greek yogurt, fresh green Basil, and just a little bit of sugar.  I love to use fresh picked basil in these, as it gives a great earthy flavor that accentuates the blueberries well.    Experiment and see what works for you though.  I like my Blueberry Basil Popsicles just a little sweet.

Vegetarian Recipes for Kids: Real Fruit Popsicles

Get your Popsicle Mold here on Amazon!

Popsicles our childhood pasttime for a lot of people. As children, they cooled us down during hot summer days, and soothed sore throats when we were sick. As adults, they take us back to those childhood memories, when days were little simpler, and we didn’t have as many things to do. The sweet concoctions were always in the freezer, whether they be on a stick or in a tube. I remember days when my mom would make them in a Tupperware popsicle maker and that was really cool. Lately, there’s been an upsurge in eating healthy, and Real Fruit Popsicles have found new life with a healthy lifestyle.

Real Fruit Popsicles are Perfect Vegetarian Recipes for Kids

Real Fruit Popsicles are easy to make with fruit that is in season, or fruit that you have frozen. Right now, there are many different styles of popsicle makers on the market. These inexpensive plastic containers are perfectly designed for making your favorite combination of fruit into the delicious Real Fruit Popsicles. The only other thing you need to make these fresh fruit popsicles is a small food processor, or even a potato masher will do. You can make your Real Fruit Popsicles with as many different fruits as you like.  I chose three of my favorite fruits and went to town. Since the fruit is thick when you use your food processor, it layers nicely giving you a clean line and a beautiful look.

Real Fruit Popsicles in Winter

If you’re like me and want to make Real Fruit Popsicles in winter, the easiest thing to do is freeze your fruit ahead of time when it’s in season. Whether it be peaches, blueberries, plums, anything really, peel it and slice it, then just place it in a plastic zippy bag in your freezer. When you’re ready to make your Real Fruit Popsicles let the bag sit for 5 or 10 minutes on your counter then process it as normal. You’ll have fresh summer Real Fruit Popsicles in the middle of winter to remind you of warmer days. It’s fantastic when you have that lingering sore throat that just won’t quite go away and a great addition to your vegetarian recipes for kids.

2 kiwis, peeled and sliced

Pulse the kiwi in a food processor until smooth.
Place in the bottom of each cavity of a popsicle mold.
Rinse the food processor out and repeat with each of the other fruits.
Add the popsicle sticks.
